1948 Mercedes 170V

The Oldest Mercedes of Pakistan on Road! Purchased brand new by Dost Muhammad Khan Sherpao, brother to Hayat Muhammad Sherpao, the 15th Governor of North-West Frontier Province, this 1948 170V has stood the test of time for over 7 decades. Bearing the Chassis code W-136 and inline-4 cylinder gasoline engine, this car served as the foundation upon which Mercedes built following the survival of Allied forces bombing in the WWII. The V, meaning Vorn (front) in German, differentiated the car from earlier models called Heck(rear)flossed, shifting engines from rear-end to front-end. This Mercedes was later sold to Dost Muhammad Khan Sherpao's father-in-law, who later gave it to his daughter, from whom the owner-ship transferred to Mr.Asim Durrani. Since then, he has restored the car meticulously and has frequented trips across Pakistan in all of the annual Vintage & Classic Car Rallies. The car with it's suicide doors is the indubitable star at the Peshawar Classic Car show held annually and leads the rally to Qilla Bala Hisar. I had the pleasure of driving this car, across the capital and through the mountains with a fintail and super beetle flanked on either side escorting this beautiful Mercedes.
